A change in the USA demographics
For a number of years I have been writing about the necessity of water, for cooking, potable water, and water for your garden. I wrote about storage of water and the lists goes on over the past 30 years. Now there is a real, documented danger to the western states, mainly California and Mexico; also our entire United States economy is being imperiled.
Do you remember “The Big Dry” a decade or so back affecting the east coast with a major drought? Wherein this area, Floyd, is alleged to have unlimited underground water reserves. People, especially farmers and ranchers were very worried. Water for livestock had to be trucked in. Police were monitoring people using the New River. Our major creek went bone dry; our spring water dried up along with shallow wells through out the Eastern Seaboard. With great fortune this drought abated the following year. This was a scary, very scary time.
All this pales into insignificance compared with the current California drought that clearly has but a year of water reserves. Let me make this clear: California has only a years water left in their water storage capacity. There are 36 MILLION people in that state. Surrounding states are also faced with drought, lacking water storage to meet their needs. Northern Mexico is dependent upon the trickle of irrigation water flowing over the border from California.
California is the United States biggest producer of food for the United States as well a major food supplier for foreign countries. California is a principal food production state that had been a desert for millennia, been turned green only in the past 75 years from the snow packed mountains. Past droughts, some lasting 500 years, or more, destroyed whole cultures of Native Americans (Indians).
Snow packs in the craggy mountaintops no longer exist sufficiently to provide the filling of man-made reservoirs. There is another catrosphy waiting in the wings: Lake Mead on the Arizona border is the largest reservoir in the United States and supplies water flow to spin the generators at the Hoover Dam. A lack of water will be unable to generate power by 2016. There is just no water from the snow packs to raise the reservoir. The electricity produced at the Hoover Dam is the source of electrical power for California and Southern Western states. Wind Turbines and solar are a minor, inconsequential contributor of electricity for this vast area of energy sucking industries.
Climatologists, and other scientists, are desperately being pressured to bring good news to California. No water-no electricity-no food production – no drinking water, nothing but Mother Nature returning California to a desert again. Speculation abounds with prognostications of returning to a thousand year drought; but how in the time of human life span, can we accept and/or change this earth shaking expected event. Assuming that California and the western states desperately need to experience a major snowfall like this past year in the eastern seaboard. Would it reverse the drought?
There’re several proposed solutions such as a using ocean water and extracting the salt. But there is major opposition to this from the environmentalists as well as Fukushima radiation is now in California’s seawater.
The farmers in the California valley are pumping water from the aquifers and draining them dry in desperation but contributing to the “fracking” phenomena of causing land collapse. The California government still sides with the tax base, not the farmers. Sad! The golf courses and tourist locations continue to enjoy water. Plus, the grass cutting lawn mowers industry generates 4 to 5 billion dollars a year. This is a big lobby for continued water waste. 60% of water usage goes towards lawns.
Consider that over the next few short years you could witness a major exodus from California (36,000,000) and surrounding water dependant states toward the east coast. The 3 million, or so Hispanic gangs and illegals will also be on the move. This is of course idle speculation, as no one really knows who is going where, however the exodus will drive real estate prices sky high on the eastern states and there will be a downfall of California housing industry price values, with attendant lost taxation. On a more serious note such a major catastrophic event, even over a few years will impact on the national economy, primarily for food availability in the markets.
I would suggest reading the columns from the “Economic Collapse.Com ” website where in you may find more statistical speculation of interest which will get your gardens growing this year.
Conserve your water. Many communities in several states are running dry, and this could be us once the government taps into our “unending” water supplies of Floyd County. Oh, by the way in order to raise more revenue the state is proposing for the past couple of years to install meters on your wells to raise tax revenue. Yes, there is that faction that wants to tax you to your death-then more as they lay you to rest.
With the demise of food production from California the emphasis will be on agricultural food production on the eastern side of the United States. This may be a boon to major agricultural industries and agricultural employment as the techniques of food production in theses modern times is not the same as it was in the early 1900’s. For those smaller entrepreneurs who want to investigate the “possibles” an initial review of “Farmtec.com” catalog may be insightful. This is not backyard gardening but an investment of a few thousand, or hundred thousand dollars to set up hydroponics, greenhouses, finding a labor source, plus Water.
For the backyard gardener desiring to leave a legacy of home food producing land for the heirs you will need water. I have written about water wells, storage, and capturing water for the dry periods using, as in my case, several thousand-gallon water tanks for a 10,000 square foot garden. Ponds capturing run off also have been discussed. The view at this time is that shortly the banter about making it illegal to capture water and make ponds will really be enacted, and enforced through taxation by the mandates of the Environmentalists, and lobbied by major agricultural industry.
There is always some sort of media promoted political based threat to our people. To be dependent upon Uncle Sam to support you in dire situations such as the possible diminished food supply to the citizens warrants your critical thinking of the realities. There are other threats, most being smoke and mirrors in the political process to keep your pitchfork and torch from being a reality in standing up for what is the Constitutional right of the “Will of the People”.
Time is running out.
This link will sum up much of the above discussion. I always look forward to your comments. Read Another Reason to Move Away from California: Conditions are Like a Third World Country
May God Bless You, and Bless the United States of America. Live long and prosper.
