Diabetes: Growing your own health
Now that spring is here we are in a time frame to consider new plants and new directions in our lives for improved response to the Diabetic illness thereby weaning ourselves from the debilitation of fast foods and fat foods. If you cannot garden, maybe you can find a gardener who will grow for you, or one who is an entrepreneur gardener who is specializing in Diabetic produce.
I have pondered this last article on Diabetic herbs, and there are numerous ones to list, however each herb is a medicine in its own right and can have an adverse effect on the unknowing when combined with other herbs. I do not think there are sufficient clinical nutritionists and holistic physicians competent to provide enough input to manage your health unless you are very rich to afford such services.
In light of this concern for your health I am suggesting a book that will delineate all these herbs and services not only for the diabetic but for other health issues as well. The book in question has been in print about ten years under this title: Prescription for HERBAL HEALING by Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, published by AVERY, Penguin Books Inc.
EATS in Blacksburg Virginia has current copies and can order more. Check with your local health store manager for ordering your copy. Amazon.com books is another quick option.
There does exist in other countries, other treatments for the Diabetic. For example the Traditional Chinese formula: The EIGHT-INGREDIENT PILL with REHMANNIA is the most popular treatment in Japan for Diabetes. The formula lowers blood sugar and aids in regulation of insulin. Type 1 and Type 2 victims, and for those on insulin therapy it “smoothes out” the insulin’s effects.
If there were a wonder herbal formula it would appear that this pill warrants your investigation. You may find a list of patent medicine Brand Name (manufacturer on page 534 of Ms. Balch’s book). Some of these may be ordered from your health food store if not already in stock. In addition you will find she lists suppliers in the United Sates and Canada. This is a treasure trove for the concerned.
The cautionary approach is vital for this disorder of the pancreas and the attendant additional debilitations of the body caused by this disorder. However in the mean time there is NO PERFECT MAGIC PILL. And it requires all those afflicted as well as otherwise seemingly healthy people to take the “right action” and eat wisely and healthy foods.
This is a life long quest that is rewarded in later years. Remember you will be older longer than you are younger. Enjoy those later years in an active lifestyle not in a sickroom.
