Time to Wake Up!
The fearful comparisons between 9/11/01 and today’s grim news has worsened. The article below was written seven years ago, encouraging the readers to become more self sufficient-perhaps you will reflect on passing events and focus on new decisions.
Since September 11th, 2001 the nation has been in shock, dismay, and now anger over the reality that someone can get into our backyard. America the Beautiful is no longer sacrosanct, pure and unspoiled. Mr. and Mrs. America, although focusing their anger at the evil wrong doers, are but spinning their wheels in futile gestures of ethnocentric retreat and opening themselves up for more manipulations of soothing words and comforts by the government.
There exists the threat of airborne delivery, no matter how crude, of biological agents. There exists the stranger with a suitcase by the reservoir, another in a major food chain store, more in hospitals, banks, schools and transportation centers.
Last New Years celebration in Times Square, 2 million people shared the same air, the same pushing, shoulder-to-shoulder togetherness, and went home. This scene was repeated across the world. Will we ever have a public gathering again?
Are there more scenarios? Yes, history is fraught with horrors of war and the evil that men do. It is not going to stop. It is time to wake up and take control of your life, and the ones entrusted in your care and love. You cannot depend upon big brother of government to do it for you. A case in point is that we have only enough anthrax vaccine for 2 million people. That is about how many are in the armed forces. The population of this nation is over 260,000,000 people.
Mr. and Mrs. America are going to have to become survivalists. No, not the Rambo, camouflage clad street rangers clutching guns and building bunkers, but joining the correct understanding of individualism, asserting yourself to make decisions, assessing realistic dangers in your neighborhood and defining precautions.
Do you have a “bug out kit”? Millions of California citizens have a survival kit in their car for the big earthquake, or civil disruption, containing camping supplies, food, water and a definite place to go. They proudly call themselves “survivalists”.
Are you a member of a neighborhood watch group, a member of the Rescue squad, a church sponsored help committee, or perhaps part of the county’s civil defense organization? These are survivalists.
Do you keep a food store of canned goods, flashlights, batteries, portable radios, heating supplies, blankets and such for the winter loss of power in ice storms, floods, loss of jobs, and helping neighbors? If you do, you are a survivalist.
Are you sitting in your darkened room, fearful, anxious about the next horrible bit of never ending news? Turn off the TV, get out and talk to people. Access your fears in a list and find people that can professionally, or non-professionally, give good advice.
Living alone, or in a closed community, will invite paranoia and rash decisions. Talk to your elected officials in your district and find out what the community is doing and how you can become active. Active people have active minds and find solutions, not frustrations and anger.
Rural people today are not living like they did in yesteryear. The modern landholder lives in a hyped suburbia of tract type homes utterly dependent upon the system to keep them running. Gone are the old farms occupied by a dozen people all laboring for food on the table, and a modicum of self-sufficiency now less understood and only romantically captured by writers living in New York City.
How will you get water out of that well if you have major power interruptions? How much wood is needed to heat your house? Do you have sufficient foods, medications and supportive friends? Are you carpooling, willing to share gasoline, your labors? Are you a survivalist, or one to be carried off to a refugee camp?
The terrorist network is worldwide and well entrenched in the United States. Expect that you will be affected in someway, sooner or later, even if you are rural and grow a garden.
Ed: End 2001 article.
Today, Sunday 26, September 2008, following the Terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the thwarted attack on the White House we have become embroiled in controversy: two war fronts, oil and gasoline shortages, spiraling inflation, constitutional rights being infringed, atrocities, unmeasured greed, corruption, waste, lies, deceptions, economic downturns heading into a world wide depression, and lastly blatant criminal conspiracies in government. We remain controlled by fear. We do nothing.
God Bless America and God Bless you.
