Flu Preparations, more HERBS
Influenza has been studied since the 1500’s. Only recently in the past 75 years has there been any real progress in prevention, and that is in “Flu Shots” available at drug stores and your physician’s office.
In the meantime, within living memory there have been two major influenza pandemics-world wide, but mostly remembered that it apparently started in 1918-1919 and again in 1928-1929. Millions died, the economy stopped, little could be done other than give fluids, provide rest, warmth, and loving care by nurses and womenfolk.
What I find interesting is that the first noticed influenza awareness followed the Armistice of 1918 and the “dough boys” returned from the trenches in Europe. There has always been an observation that following a war there is disease. However I believe it was Fort Dix that the first symptomatic observation was noted. I note that adjacent to the Army base at that time was a big pig farm. Pigs spread “Swine Flu” H1N1 virus, although in those years viruses were speculated upon but unknown.
My mother made the comment that you “milked the cow in the morning and you were dead by the afternoon”. That is how fast the deadly strain of influenza-killed people. The recommendation for flu inoculations is children under 5 and old folks 65 and older. Just recently a 17-year-old girl contracted flu and died within a week. Get a flu shot even if it does not protect against the current “A” strain. There are other strains that can cause pneumonia.
Today, as outlined below, the two referred sites you can click onto will support how dangerous the current influenza epidemic is and how fast it is spreading. Unfortunately the H1N1 “Swine Flu” in 2010 was alleged to be over published, and a promotion for the pharmaceutical industry to make money. There is always criticism of any major industry and I have no knowledge of the reliability of that issue. However, it was so damaging that the industry held back on the research and development of a “Swine Flu” vaccine to our detriment today. The current vaccine is admittedly not as effective as would be expected.
There are some other considerations. The H1N1 has morphed into a strain designated as H3n2 and what is scary is that this virus has morphed again: H3n2v. These are all derived from the “Swine Flu” virus that may have been circulating for years and years. Presently it is admitted that being around pigs, and pig handlers is not a good idea. The question is if eating pork, or handling pork could pass the virus. The CDC is not committing itself on this one. Now recall my comments on China taking over our pork industry from a previous article on our economic decline. They have also taken over our chicken industry. Chickens carry deadly strains (H5N1 and H9N2 plus other fowl viruses), and everyday there is commentary on how many millions of chickens are killed in Asia, Europe and the USA to prevent virus spread. Currently 451 people are down with the Bird Flu reported by WHO in Asia. Personally when eating out-if I dare, I would not eat pork, probably not chicken either, unless I raised it, or could observe the health of the birds. This commentary is not to discredit China, or other Asian Countries now involved in the matrix of international trade, but the ridgid control the USA employs to ascertain standards of safety does not exist in those countries.
Tamiflu, a pharmaceutical, is being made available to the public who contract the various “Swine Flu” symptoms. Although costly, it may save your life.
I am always beating the drum about Echinacea and Echinamide as a boost to the immune system, which may overpower viruses, and would probably help in this current epidemic.
There is a more powerful herb component used by the American Indians in the 1928-29 pandemic and they had a reported higher survival rate compared with the Caucasians. You are not going to be able to grow it fast enough, but you can probably order seed and/or plants from Horizon Herbs.com for later.
The herb is: LOMATIUM (Lomatium disectum) root. This combined with OSHA (Ligusticum porteri) may be found from the Ecletic Institute Inc. Sandy, Oregon 97055, USA. www.eclecticherb.com. Or check out local health stores and www.Amazon.Com
They combine Lommatium and Osha, plus a few other herbs that you can read about. We take this herb combination as a preventative, plus of course: Echinamide. This herbal combination may be of some value in the Hundred Day Cough we recently wrote about.
Having lived in Asia, I follow the majority of the then knowledgeable people and now use an antiviral facemask when sitting in the physician’s office waiting room (full of viruses) and the dentists’ office. These are made by CURAD and are advertised to stop 99.99% of the virus H1N1, and hopefully its variants. This includes a host of other identifiable harmful and deadly viruses. Their website is: www.curad.com. These masks are available on Amazon.com
